Water levels in various reservoirs increase following rain

Coimbatore District recorded a total rainfall of 202.70 mm and average rainfall of 16.89 mm in the last 24 hours that ended at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday.

Rainfall in mm recorded at various places in Coimbatore are as follows: Annur 23.90, Airport Peelamedu 12.20, Mettuppalayam 20.10, Pollachi 8, Periyanaickenpalayam 16, Sulur 14, TNAU 10.40, Chincona 25, Chinnakallar 28, Sholayar 18, Parambikulam 7, Aliyar 5.6, Thirumurthy 6, Amaragathy 5, Valparai PAP 19, Lower Nirar 30, Upper Nirar 28 and Valparai Taluk office 15.

Water level in ft in various dams under Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) and Full Reservoir Level (FRL) in brackets: Sholayar 142.28 (160), Parambikulam 37.80 (72), Aliyar 96 (120), Thirumurthy 47.49 (60) and Amaravathy 63.14 (90).

Rain weakened in Tirupur district on Thursday after residents experienced incessant precipitation all through the previous day. The inflow into dams in the district also reduced on Thursday.

A segment of Tirupur-Avinashi highway passing through Kumar Nagar area was flooded on Thursday morning after water from a nearby drain spilled onto the road stretch. Senior Corporation officials and Ward 25 councillor Uma Maheswari rushed to the spot and carried out corrective measures by supervising removal of obstructions in the drain.
