“Focus will be to make use of available technologies along with traditional methods of the police for effective crime detection,” says R.V. Ramya Bharathi (26), who assumed office as the new Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Coimbatore City, on Wednesday.

“Priority will be given for prevention of crimes. Focus will be on combating incidents of chain-snatching and house break-in. Efforts will be made for increasing visible policing and to create a better informants network,” she said.

The DCP added that instructions have already been given to the officials to prepare a database of persons from other States and countries who are residing in the city and to monitor movements of suspicious persons.

“A series of meetings will be conducted for bankers and jewellers to install CCTV cameras on their premises and to mend the faulty ones. CCTV cameras installed in public places will also soon be repaired and put to use,” she added. Ms. Bharathi is a 2008 batch IPS officer.
