Coimbatore Corporation mulls supplying Siruvani on alternate days

May 13, 2014 10:33 am | Updated 10:33 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The last few days’ rain has brought hope to the Coimbatore Corporation as the water level in the Siruvani Reservoir has increased by nearly 4ft.

According to sources, the water level increased by 3.93ft or 1.2m, and at present the water level stood at over 10ft.

The water supply to the city has also increased by 75 million litres a day (MLD), up from the 65 MLD the city received from the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board.

Prior to the rain, the Corporation gradually brought down the water supply to the city to 65 MLD, necessitating water supply once in four days to residents who until then received Siruvani water on alternate days.

The sources said that the Corporation was yet to decide on improving the water supply but the factors that would prompt the improvement were favourable.

In areas that saw a shortfall in Siruvani supply, the Corporation had augmented supply with Pilloor water.
