The Coimbatore Corporation on Friday demolished five houses that had encroached a 20-feet layout road at (Ward 8) Moovar Nagar, near Kavundenpalayam.

Residents of the area had submitted several representations to the Corporation seeking the removal of encroachments as it was blocking the connectivity between two main roads in the locality, according to official sources.

Based on orders of Corporation Commissioner G. Latha, a survey was undertaken last month. It confirmed the encroachment, following which notices were issued to residents of the five houses.

With the assistance of a JCP, the Corporation officials demolished the five houses that had encroached the road.

The operation was supervised by A. Varadharajan, Town Planning Officer, in the presence of T. Subramanian, Assistant Commissioner, West Zone, Coimbatore Corporation, S. Ravichandran, Assistant Town Planning Officer (Central Zone), and Hemalatha, Assistant Town Planning Officer (West Zone), along with police and Tangedco officials.
