In the next few months, the water woes of Singanallur and a few other areas are likely to end.
For, the Coimbatore Corporation will complete the work laying the pipeline from the main storage reservoir in Ganapathy to Avarampalayam, Peelamedu and a few other areas.
It will help the Corporation take more water to the areas in and around Singanallur.
According to sources, the mild steel pipeline measuring 1,000 mm in diameter will take 35 million litres a day water to water tanks in Avarampalayam, Peelamedu, D.J. Nagar. This will result in the Corporation increase the duration of water supply to Varadharajapuram, Singanallur and a few other areas.
In short, it means that the Corporation will supply water on alternate days. At present it supplied water only on five to six days.
The sources said that the Corporation took up the project with Rs. 7 crore in assistance from the State Government under the ‘Infrastructure Gap Filling Fund’ head.
The civic body was able to execute the project because it had begun supplying Pilloor II water to the new main storage reservoir. The tank would get 65 million litres a day.
To the areas that received Pilloor I water, it would soon begin supplying Pilloor II water as it had undertake the work to stop the Pilloor I water, which the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board supplied.
The TWAD Board would divert the water to the added areas in the north of the city – Saravanampatty, Kalapatti and a few other added areas.
This was part of the understanding to surrender Pilloor I water as the Corporation had commissioned its Pilloor II project, from which it got 125 million litres a day.
