The Coimbatore Medical College Hospital’s (CMCH) centenary building with five blocks to accommodate nearly 1,000 beds is likely to be completed by June 2014, four months ahead of schedule.
Public Works Department (PWD) officials told The Hindu here on Sunday that the external structure of the building had already been completed. Construction began on October 18, 2012. The Tamil Nadu Government had allotted Rs. 50 crore for the new building. The ground floor will have the Intensive Care Units and an emergency operation theatre. The new building will have 14 operation theatres and eight laboratories. A sum of Rs. 2 crore was allotted exclusively for pipelines to supply oxygen and other gases, which will do away with the need to transport bulky cylinders.
The new building has been designed to withstand earthquakes.
