CMCH gets sophisticated microscope

The Coimbatore Medical College Hospital has got an advanced neurosurgical operating microscope at a cost of Rs. 1.45 crore.

It has been allotted to the Department of Neurosurgery, where it was put into service on Friday.

According to officials, the high-end microscope would be used for all kinds of neuro-vascular surgeries, aneurism, and tumour and in assessing brain damage in accident victims.

The equipment also had a camera and recording system.

The surgery could be relayed to a television outside the operation theatre and the recordings could be used for review later.

The Neurosurgery Department of the hospital performed around 30 surgeries a month.

Till now, the department was using an older version of the microscope borrowed from the Dharmapuri Government Hospital.
