Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, through videoconferencing from Chennai, on Tuesday inaugurated the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board apartments in Sulur.

A release from the district administration says that the 108 flats, constructed under the Twelfth Five Year Plan at Rs. 2.57 crore, have a floor space of 271 sq.ft. each, having a drawing room, bedroom, kitchen and toilet. The release says that the locality has drinking water, drainage, bitumen-topped road, storm water drain, street light and other facilities.
At the Coimbatore Collectorate, where a function was held, Collector M. Karunagaran thanked the Chief Minister and said that the 108 houses would go a long way in helping the Sulur residents who were living along a tank, on encroached land.
Chitra Saravanakumar, a resident, thanked the Chief Minister from Coimbatore saying that for people like her from the lower economic strata, concrete house remained a dream. Now, that has been fulfilled.
At the Collectorate, Mayor S.M. Velusamy, Executive Engineer, TNSCB, R. Rajasekar and other officials were present.
