The district has improved both its pass percentage and State ranking in the Class X examinations, the results of which were announced on Friday.
Of the total 43,049 students who appeared this year, 41,154 cleared the examinations, a pass percentage of 95.60, an improvement of 1.48 over the last year’s performance. Coimbatore went up in the State ranking to the fifth position, up from last year’s eighth position.
While the city missed out on getting the top score in the State, which was 499 marks out of 500, five students secured 498 to come second in the State and 16 students secured State third with 497 marks.
As has been the norm in almost all public examinations results, girls continued to outshine boys this time also. While girls achieved a pass percentage of 97.31, boys recorded 93.9. Both the genders had improved their last year’s performance. A total of 1,895 students, including 1,317 boys and 578 girls, failed this year.
A total of 502 schools had sent candidates for the public examinations.
