A clash between a few students and conductor of a bus brought traffic to a standstill near Gandhipuram on Thursday evening. The police said that Vanniraj, conductor of a Government bus (68-A from Cheran Maa Nagar to Vellakinar), was pushed down inside the bus by some students who boarded the bus at Mani Higher Secondary School, Pappanaickenpalayam.

It is learnt that it led to unrest there for sometime. On reaching the Gandhipuram bus stand, the conductor refused to allow passengers to alight as he wanted to find out who pushed him down. This led to some push and pull between the conductor and the students, in which the conductor’s watch was damaged. Police sources said that a few other drivers and conductors also refused to move their vehicles from the place causing traffic snarl. Later, the conductor and the students were taken to the police station and were pacified.

A student of Amrita University was found hanging in the hostel room on Thursday. The K.G. Chavadi police recovered the body and sent it to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Inspector B. Sivakumar (21) said that M. Venkatakrishnan of Gudiyattam in Vellore district was studying second year MCA. He did not go to college on Thursday and that his roommates, who returned during the lunch break, became suspicious as the room was locked from inside. On breaking open the door, they found the student hanging from the ceiling fan.
