Closing the gap in the median on 100 Feet Road near the 11th Cross Street for vehicles taking a ‘U’ turn to reach G.P. Signal from Cross Cut Road has worsened traffic congestion in Gandhipuram over the last six days. This has congested 7{+t}{+h}Cross Street.

Now two-wheeler riders and four-wheeler drivers from Cross Cut Road who want to reach G.P. Signal have only two options: Either sneak into 7th Cross Street or go all the way to Powerhouse and take a ‘U’ turn.

The other gaps in the median were closed by the City Traffic Police a few months ago to prevent accidents caused by vehicles from smaller, side roads on either side of 100 Feet Road.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) District Secretary S. Mohammed Rafi said that similarly a gap in the median near the Omni Bus Stand that gave room for connecting Dr. Radhakrishnan Road and Sathy Road has also been closed.

He said that earlier, it was easy for two-wheelers and four-wheelers from Sathy Road to reach 100-Feet-Road, Saibaba Colony, Sivanandha Colony, Tatabad and Cross Cut Road.

“Now these vehicles are adding to the congestion at G.P. Signal in addition to the congestion caused by the ongoing overbridge construction work,” Mr. Rafi said and added that this would hinder movement of ambulances and those in a hurry.

Suggesting that the barricades should be removed and that police personnel should be deployed there to regulate traffic during peak hours, he said that the party would organize protests if the barricades were not removed from these places.

Traffic police personnel said that the road was blocked to prevent over speeding of vehicles reaching 100 Feet Road.

Admitting that this move has resulted in congestion of the 7th Cross Street, they added that it has reduced the speed of vehicles.

However, the police added that the traffic movement plan was only a trial and that it would be reversed if it did not go well.
