A special cell known as Anti Land Grabbing Cell formed for looking into complaints of land grabbing has become operational at the City Police office.

The cell would be functioning round-the-clock and would be headed by an Assistant Commissioners of Police, two Inspectors, four Sub-Inspectors and eight head constables. Complaints of land and property grabbing could be preferred and for assistance the public could seek assistance or guidance at 0422-2304930 and cellular phone number 94454-92007, City Police Commissioner Amaresh Pujari said.

Coimbatore City police has been taking various measures to serve the public through “people – friendly approach”. In earlier instances, the complaints were investigated and accused have been arrested and remanded and the unit is equipped with vehicles and telephones. The cell came into existence on June 20 and its functioning has been made formal now.

Sources said that complaints are coming in every day and the cell was looking into the complaints to find out whether prima facie any offence was made out. This was being done to prevent people from bringing up civil disputes as cases of land grabbing.
