City police jurisdiction should be in sync with Corpn. limits

February 13, 2013 10:30 am | Updated August 11, 2016 03:36 pm IST - COIMBATORE:

Given the growing crime and for ensuring a co-ordinated crime control and detection, the burgeoning sub-urban areas need to be merged with the city police.

To say the least, the City Police jurisdiction should be in sync with the Corporation limits. Initially, the proposal for a Greater Coimbatore City Police was to have to even Perur, Vadavalli and Thudialur police stations annexed with Coimbatore.

On the expansion of city police limits, what ultimately materialised was only in terms of annexing the Podanur police station with Coimbatore City.

The jurisdiction of Podanur was bifurcated creating a new police station at Kuniamuthur.

It was during this period that Ukkadam, Variety Hall Road and Rathinapuri police stations came into existence trifurcating the Big Bazaar Police limits and Kattoor Police limits.

Even today, a crime-prone Thudialur Police station has a vast jurisdiction and it had to be bifurcated with a police station at Thadagam in Rural Police limits and Thudialur need to be annexed with city for better management, say officials on conditions of anonymity.
