The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has launched an Internal Competitiveness Enhancement Programme for a group of textile units here on Tuesday.
Five units from the spinning and weaving segments will participate in the 18-month programme.
Speaking at the inaugural, Chairman of the CII Cluster Forum and Managing Director of Hi Tech Arai Private Limited B.T. Bangera urged the participants to build a culture for their organisation. Culture was unique to an organisation and it made all the difference in a competitive environment.
Adopt changes
The Competitiveness Enhancement Programme improved the knowledge and internal competitiveness in a unit and gave an opportunity for the participating industries to adopt changes.
The basic formula adopted by the unit to manufacture a product remained confidential in such programmes.
An industry should build the trust of employees as their involvement was important.
Decision-making should be transparent and the employees should be able to see the actions taken in a unit.
Mr. Bangera urged the participants to have corporate values that would be the guiding principles of their unit.
T.L. Praveen Kumar, Counsellor of CII LM Thapar Centre for Competitiveness, said the confederation had worked with automobile and auto components units, leather and footwear units for such programmes.
The first programme for the textile sector was taking off here.
Modules
Under the roadmap prepared for the programme, the modules were applicable for any industrial sector.
According to the current economic and export competitiveness trend, India was ranked 30th in the world competitiveness and it was expected to move up to the 13th position in seven years.
Clustering would help improve the product, competitiveness, delivery schedule, and quality through hand-holding and sharing. CII had covered 1,650 companies through its initiative in 165 clusters.
Productivity
Chairman of the CII Coimbatore Zone Ravi Sam said this was an intervention programme and would have a long-term impact in reducing wastage and increasing productivity in a unit.
The local chapter of the CII was ready to help any textile unit that wanted to develop a brand.
Training
Good human resource practices and personnel training were important now as there were a number of labour-related problems.
The CII also proposed to organise a plant visit to Alok Industries and the textile units interested in taking part could contact the confederation for details.
