Residents of a host of residential colonies on Nethaji Street in Ward 15 and 20 are upset at the way the Coimbatore Corporation is carrying out storm water drain and underground drainage works there.
The road is damaged, the drain is choked, and residents are having a really horrible time, says an AIADMK worker of the area.
The situation is so bad that an elderly resident of the area suffered injuries from a fall on Saturday and was rushed to the hospital, says T.V. Kalyanakrishnan, another resident. He says that the condition of road has been so for about three months.
The contractor, to whom the Corporation had awarded the underground drainage construction work, had executed the work in fits and starts, leaving many a stretch untouched. This has impacted the road condition. The same also holds good for the storm water drain as well.
This has led to a situation where sewage stagnates at most places, causing utmost inconvenience to the residents, he says and adds that his complaint in the last two months to senior Corporation officials had fallen on deaf ears.
Sources close to the Councillors concerned said that they too have been victims, in a sense, that their complaints to the officials have not had the desired effect. No senior officials visit the spot and there is nobody to extract work from the contractor, who has been irregular.
The area is thickly populated and the Corporation needs to act with utmost urgency to repair the road and drains at the earliest, they add.
