Crime Branch on Saturday evening arrested Sivananandam (34) and his wife Amutha (33), who ran a chit fund company at Parapalayam in the city, on charges of duping the firm’s customers to the tune of Rs. 50 lakh.

Inspector (Crime Branch) T. Kalaiarasi said that the accused ran savings schemes and collected money from around 60 persons and did not return the amount to them when the schemes matured. The owners ‘lured’ the customers by promising exorbitant returns on the principal amount, she added.

Constable arrested

M. Bhaskaran (31), a police constable attached to Tirupur Rural police station, was arrested by the city police on Saturday for the alleged collusion with S. Kannan, a Homes Guard, who was arrested on January 2 for reported theft of a vehicle. City police sources said the vehicle, which Kannan had stolen from a two-wheeler parking stand, was later recovered from the house of Bhaskaran on the confession of Kannan.

Investigation

The Anti Land Grabbing Cell on Saturday conducted an investigation into the complaint of U. Kannusamy that his six acre at Velampalayam was grabbed by some people by forging the documents. The FIR had put a total of 13 persons as accused.
