Two child workers, C.Vignesh (12) and C. Lavanya (13), were rescued from a textile unit at Karuvampalayam here on Saturday.

The children were freed by a special team constituted by Collector C. Samayamoorthy, comprising officials from National Child Labour Project, Inspectorate of Factories and Revenue Department, after conducting surprise checks randomly at 30 units in Rakkiapalayam, Karuvampalayam, Nallur and Muthanampalayam areas.

The NCLP sources said action would be taken against the textile unit, which was also found to be functioning unregistered. The girl would be enrolled into the special school run by the NCLP at K.V.R.Nagar soon. The boy already is a student in the mainstream education.

NCLP project director D. Vijayakumar said water purifiers had been commissioned at the NCLP-run special schools at Komaralingam, Kaniyur and Chinnapapanoth, all under Udumalpet taluk, a few days ago with the funding support of Rotary Club of Tirupur.
