World Vision India, a non-governmental organisation, has constituted child protection units in 48 urban slums of the district.
These units will work towards preventing child trafficking and assisting victims of child sexual abuse.
The units are monitored by a district committee comprising government officials, and community leaders, said K. Vetriselvan John, programme manager of the organisation here on Monday.
Child rights
He said that programmes on child rights would held for Coimbatore Corporation Councillors, officers of the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board, and government schools teachers.
The monitoring committee comprised of the District Child Protection Officer, G. Vijaya; the Project Director of National Child Labour Project, Coimbatore, D. Vijayakumar; a child counsellor P. Gothanvalli; and a government schoolteacher, R. Anand.
