Chess tournament concludes

The two-day The Hindu In School Chess Competition 2016, which was held at PSG Medical College auditorium in Coimbatore, concluded on Sunday.

The tournament was conducted in two categories – for students of classes V to VIII in junior category and students of classes IX to XII in the senior category.

Prizes were given away to 36 students, with nine prizes for each of the four categories. Participation certificate was given to all the contestants. While trophies were given away to the top four in each category, medals were given to those who secured the fifth to ninth places.

Following are the winners in the four categories:

Senior Boys – T.V. Arunachalam Shivaa, Lisieux Matriculation Higher Secondary School (MHSS), Coimbatore – 7 points.

Senior Girls – R. Nandini, SSVM MHSS – 5 points.

Junior Boys – M.E. Aadarsh Kumar, SBOA MHSS, Coimbatore – 7 points.

Junior Girls – J. Shalini, Hindusthan MHSS, Coimbatore – 6 points.

Prizes were distributed by S. Ramalingam, Dean, PSG Institute of Medical Science and Research. Organised by The Hindu , the tournament was presented by Thyrocare. PSG Medical College was the venue partner. It was organised to commemorate the International Chess Day (July 20). The tournament is organised in 25 cities across India.
