Chess contests begin today

To mark the International Chess Day on July 20, The The Hindu in School will organise a chess competition at the PSG Medical College Audtorium here on July 23 and 24.

There will be two categories of participants: junior (Standards V to VIII) and senior (Standards IX to Plus-Two).

This is an open competition for boys and girls, being conducted in association with the Coimbatore District Chess Association under the aegis of Tamil Nadu Chess Association.

The tournament will be played on Swiss League basis under latest FIDE Rapid Rules. The decision of the tournament committee will be final and binding to all. Children participating in the competition should bring their own chess sets, and chess clock. They should bring the print out of registration slip and school identity card too.

Participation certificate will be given to all the contestants. Top nine players (category-wise) will get trophies/medals and merit certificates. Prizes will be distributed to the winners on July 24 at the venue.

Dr. Ramalingam, Dean, PSG Institution of Medical Science and Research and PSG Hospitals, Coimbatore, will be the chief guest.
