Check mosquito menace : CPI (M)

August 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:23 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Members of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) staged a protest at Thudiyalur on Wednesday to highlight mosquito menace and poor hygiene in areas that fell under Ward one and two of the Corporation.

Led by the area secretary N. Raja, former MLA U.K. Vellingiri and executive committee member S. Krishnamurthy, the protesters marched from the Thudiyalur bus stand to the Corporation office there.

Breeding hub

They said that the area around the bus stand and the weekly shandy, had turned a mosquito breeding hub. The Corporation was not cleaning the shandy area and that led to stagnation of waste.

This resulted in the area residents, commuters visiting the bus stop and traders going to the weekly market suffering mosquito bites. To highlight the menace, a few protestors draped themselves in mosquito nets.

At the Corporation office, they presented a charter of demands to the officials.
