Four days after having sold gold jewellery worth Rs. 1.87 lakh to a conman, who used his credit card, the jeweller is finding himself in a fix. The bank has denied payment stating that the credit card was a fake one and the police are reluctant to register a case.

Proprietor of a jewellery shop N. Balavenkatesh said that the man claiming to be a resident of Malumichampatti here and an exporter at Thoothukudi came to his shop and wanted to buy chains and necklace. After selecting two chains weighing about 69.2 grams, he preferred making the payment using a credit card.

Mr. Balavenkatesh said that the next day he found out that the money was not credited to his account. He was shocked to receive a call from the bank stating that it was a fake credit card and the identity proof that he (customer) provided was also fake. The jewellery shop owner tried lodging a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police and was directed to the Saibaba Colony police station as his shop was located in their jurisdiction. A police officer said that they will look into the issue and take appropriate action.
