Chaos prevail near railway station

The intersection of Railway Junction Road, E.V.N. Road and Chennimalai Road is turning into a nightmare for motorists as road users want either traffic signal to be installed or police personnel to be posted for regulating traffic.

Buses and other heavy vehicles from Junction Road take right turn to reach E.V.N. Road while buses and other vehicles from Chennimalai Road either take left turn to reach E.V.N. Road or take straight to reach Junction Road.

Also, vehicles from E.V.N. Road take right turn to reach Chennimalai Road. With mushrooming of residential areas along the Chennimalai Road, movement of vehicles is also very high. Likewise, vehicles use the E.V.N. Road, both to enter and exit, the main city.

Hence, the number of vehicles using the three roads has increased significantly when compared to previous years. But in the absence of traffic signal or police personnel to regulate traffic, the intersection point turn to be chaotic during any party of the day resulting in hardship to the road users.

Motorists said that crossing the intersection is a harrowing experience as most of the vehicles come at high speed from all the three roads. Traffic congestion is common at the intersection as vehicle users frequently end up fighting leading to other motorists being stuck. ‘All motorists want to move towards their destinations and no one wants to halt at the intersection’, said V. Moorthy.

He said that two-wheelers attempt to enter even the little space available causing congestion.

Road users wanted traffic signal to be installed in the intersection area. However, they said that posting of police personnel during peak hours would be better as the vehicle flow is not continuous in the afternoon hours.
