Salem district administration under the aegis of SSA has undertaken the district-wise enumeration of children who are not attending schools.
Inaugurated by Collector J Chandrakumar here on Monday, the enumeration as a part of state-wide exercise would be held till April 15.
The Collector asked the officials not to leave out a single child in the age group of 5 and 14 who was not attending school.
The census, he said, was very important as it was concerned with policies of 100 per cent education for all.
A team of 212 teachers, 42 special teachers and volunteers from non-governmental organisations would be deployed for the purpose.
The general public should come forward to provide all details regarding their children. District Coordinator of SSA was leading the enumeration.
The team would be divided into four committees and cover children in 385 village panchayats, 20 Unions, 33 town panchayats, 4 municipalities and Salem Corporation areas.
All the details of the children between 5 and 14 and 14 and 18 would be included in the census.
Other details including their mother tongue, sex, parents, addresses etc.
District Revenue Officer V. Kalai Arasi and other senior officials participated.
