October 12, 2013 10:06 am | Updated 10:06 am IST - COIMBATORE:

As many as 27 schools in Coimbatore and nearby districts following Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus are taking part in a five-day capacity-building programme for school heads, which began here on Wednesday.

The Board had made such programmes mandatory as part of its Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system.

It is being organised by EZ Vidya, an education research organisation that was empanelled with the CBSE, New Delhi.

Chief Executive Officer of EZ Vidya, Chitra Ravi, told journalists that the objective was to equip teachers with the tools to identify the changed profile of present-day students, who have a short attention span.

Survey

A research survey conducted by the organisation in 2,800 schools on core teaching and learning aspects had found that 68 per cent of the Principals opined that the present curriculum did not give adequate scope for creative thinking, while 71 per cent expressed concern over integration of technology in enhancing learning outcomes and lack of integration with curriculum, she said.

Ms. Chitra Ravi said that schools were being told to make the curriculum more goal-based and include projects that require collaborative approach.

Technology should be integrated in a meaningful manner in classrooms.
