Kovilpalayam Police have registered a case against 26 students of a private engineering college for allegedly kidnapping a fellow student and beating him, before deserting him in a remote place near Kovilpalayam late in the night on January 28.

According to the police, a third year mechanical engineering student of Kumaraguru College of Technology celebrated his birthday in the college hostel on that day. It is learnt that there was heated exchange of words when fourth year student C. Arun and his friends asked third year students not to make noise. The police said that the third year students kidnapped Arun in a car and assaulted him.

They also allegedly torched Arun’s motorcycle on the college premises.
