A case has been registered against the DMK’s Nilgiris candidate, A. Raja, and a few others on the charge of distributing cash to voters.

The Annuperpalayam police in Tirupur district registered the case on a complaint from the vice-president of the Thirumuruganpoondi panchayat and AIADMK member, Viswanathan, who had alleged that Mr. Raja, the DMK’s union secretary, Saminathan, and 47 others distributed cash on Thursday, the day of polling. They fled the spot after AIADMK members objected to it.

When The Hindu contacted Mr. Raja on the day of polling for his response, he said he had halted at a house only to refresh. As it was difficult to pass through a narrow stretch where the AIADMK workers were involved in poll-related work, he asked the driver to reverse his sports utility vehicle and take another route.
