The Anti-Land Grab Special Cell of the Coimbatore City Police on Thursday registered a case against five persons on the charge of usurping a government land worth more than Rs. 3 crore at Ganapathy.

The case was registered based on a complaint lodged by Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan.

According to the police, 3,200 sq.ft. land on Sathy Main Road at Ganapathy is in the name of Commissioner, Coimbatore Corporation. D. Selvaraj of Ganapathy and C. Dharman Nadar allegedly forged documents with the help of document writers and staff in the Stamps and Survey Departments in the name of Selvaraj.

The police said that the duo forged documents claiming that the land was inherited by Selvaraj and a deal was worked out between them in a way that he had to sell the land to Dharman Nadar. They also gave Power of Attorney for the land to D. Ravindran, Dhanapal and I. Keerthi.

The issue came to light when the accused tried to take over the land in 2011-12, and was opposed by the public. After inquiring the issue, the Corporation Commissioner lodged a complaint with the city police, following which the case was registered in Thursday.

The five persons were booked under Sections 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine forged documents or electronic records), 419 (cheating by personation) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.

No arrest

Assistant Commissioner of the Cell K. Rangasamy is investigating the case. No arrest was made on that day.
