The State Agriculture Department’s extension centre in Veerapandi organised a capacity-building training programme for the office-bearers and members of the dry land village farmers development groups functioning under the Mission on Sustainable Dry Land Agriculture recently.
Dry land farming
The department had already formed 11 dry land village farmers groups in Kalparapatti and Karichipatti clusters in Veerapandi block. The office-bearers of these groups had already been elected.
N. Kamalam, agriculture officer, explained the importance of group formation and benefits to the farmers in her presidential address.
Radha Sundarajan, horticulture officer, underlined the importance of horticulture in dry land agriculture.
Subsidy
Thangaprakasam, assistant engineer, explained the importance of summer ploughing and susbsidy cost involved in dry land farming.
Dhyalan and Ramesh, both assistant veterinary surgeons, explained the various schemes of the animal husbandry department. Govindarajan, deputy agricultural officer, also spoke.
Seeds distributed
‘At the end, pulses seeds were distributed at subsidised rate to 50 participants.
