With the objective of enhancing road safety, the Rotary club of Coimbatore Ikon on Thursday launched a project – Traffic Jam – to educate road users.
According to S. Ramesh kumar, its president, the campaign will focus on maintaining lane discipline, slowing down when the traffic signal goes to amber and becomes red, parking only in designated areas, and never using the phone while driving.
The campaign slogan is: “I shall be a Responsible Road User.” College students would distribute pamphlets carrying steps to be taken to ensure road safety to road users at major road junctions.
The City Traffic Police has promised to support the campaign, he said adding that Traffic Warders too would be roped in for the purpose.
“We will give gifts to responsible road users to encourage them,” he added.
The campaign began on Thursday in the presence of Raj Khanna, Assistant Commissioner of Police (West).
