Collector C. Samayamoorthy has instructed the Block Development Officers (BDOs) to coordinate with the bankers on guided interventions relating to formation of women self help groups and credit-related issues of the groups.

He mentioned this here on Monday while inaugurating an orientation programme conducted by the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women Limited for block development officers.

Schemes

The programme covered various schemes under Mahalir Thittam.

The block development officers were reminded that their duties were multi-functionary and they should make frequent visits to the banks for ensuring timely sanction of loans to the self-help group members.

“Any exploitation of SHG members by credit-lending institutions – like levying of exorbitant interest – should be brought to the notice of District Collector,” Mr Samayamoorthy said further, at the meeting.

In addition to this, the block development officers should also help the bankers to conduct frequent camps in order to recover the loans that had been disbursed to members of the self-help groups.

Project Officer of Mahalir Thittam P. Devanathan, District Public Relations Officer A. Umaapathy, and Lead Bank Manager R. Murugesan were present at the function.
