Cadre granted bail

December 10, 2011 10:40 am | Updated 10:40 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Judicial Magistrate II S. Chellapandian on Friday granted bail to 15 activists of Tamil Desa Poduvudamai Katchi.

The cadre were arrested on Wednesday when they attempted to enter a jewellery shop on Cross Cut Road, run by a Keralite.

It was as part of their protest against attack on Sabarimala pilgrims in Kerala, following a stand-off between Kerala and Tamil Nadu over the Mullaperiyar Dam issue. However, the execution of bail is likely to happen only on Saturday.

Detained

City Police Commissioner Amaresh Pujari ordered the detention of P. Manikandan (32) of Rathinapuri, under the Goondas Act.

The police said that Manikandan had failed to pay the amount for the food he consumed at a hotel in Sivananda Colony. He had also threatened the hotel owner at knife-point and took away money from him.

As he was involved in many cases, Mr. Pujari ordered his detention and the order was served on him at the Central Prison on Friday.
