Buses stop operating services in city

As the wage talks between the trade unions and government remained inconclusive till night, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation buses gradually stopped operating buses in the city, said S. Periyasamy, Zonal President of the Labour Progressive Front (LPF) affiliated to Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) here on Thursday.

Various trade unions except the Anna Thozhir Sangam (ATS) gradually stopped plying services from 6.30 p.m.

Buses stopped operating from Singanallur, Ukkadam, Mettupalayam, , Gandhipuram moffusil and town bus stands, Mr. Periyasamy added.

500 buses

Over 500 buses out of the total 1, 200 operating from these five bus stands returned to the depots, said Mr. Periyasamy.

However, an official of the TNSTC said that 30 % of the buses stopped plying since evening.
