Bus services to Kerala and Karnataka were hit as the 48-hour nation wide strike began on Wednesday.

The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation operated its bus services only up to Walayar near Kerala and Hosur near Karnataka.

Private buses, however, made hay by operating services between Hosur and Bangalore, according to reports reaching here.

The TNSTC used to run 27 buses to Kerala daily. Kerala State Road Transport Corporation buses did not ply at all. Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation plied services up to Athipalli in Karnataka.

Though train services were not affected, there was only a marginal increase in passengers, according to railway sources in Coimbatore.

The TNSTC bus services stopped plying beyond Hosur from the midnight of Tuesday itself. Many private vehicles, and lorries plied as usual. Private bus operators from Karanataka ran services between Hosur and Bangalore.

The TNSTC would commence its bus services to Karnataka only after assessing the situation in view of the gazette notification of Cauvery Tribunal award, sources said.
