Two Coimbatore residents robbed when burglars struck at houses in Thudiyalur and Singanallur.
Two Coimbatore residents lost their jewellery weighing 43 sovereigns and Rs. 1 lakh cash to burglars who struck at houses in Thudiyalur and Singanallur.
In the first incident in Thudiyalur police station limits, the burglars broke open the doors to a house in Nithya Nagar and decamped with 20 sovereign jewellery and Rs. 1 lakh in cash that were kept in a safe. The police said that the incident happened when the resident Ranganathan, a retired Agriculture Department officer, and his family were not at home. Three days ago, they had left the city.
The incident came to light when the family returned home on Friday afternoon. Mr. Ranganathan then lodged a complaint with the police, who have registered a case in this connection. The police pressed into service canine sleuths and fingerprint experts to gather clues.
In the second incident in Cooperative Colony, burglars struck in broad daylight on Friday at Ravichandran’s house in Cooperative Colony. The Singanallur police said that the burglars had struck at the house after watching the movements of the residents – Ravichandran, his wife Suganthi and son Ashwin, for, they waited for the three to leave home.
Ravichandran worked for a company in Lakshmi Mills, Suganthi worked for a well-known manufacturing company in Coimbatore and Ashwin was a college student. The burglars broke open the front door and also the safe to lay their hands on 23-sovereign jewellery.
The police said that the incident came to light on Friday evening when Ashwin returned home from college. He then alerted his parents, who rushed home and then lodged a complaint with the police.
The Singanallur police said that it was only a few days ago that they had conducted an awareness campaign in the area, asking residents to move valuables to bank lockers.
In this case, the police said that the burglars appeared to be very professional in that they had erased fingerprints and left no clues.
Investigations are on in both the cases.
