February 06, 2013 11:05 am | Updated 11:05 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Architects, builders and civil engineers in Coimbatore will jointly organise the sixth edition of Build Mat, a construction fair, here from February 7 to 10.

Representatives of the Coimbatore centres of Indian Institute of Architects, Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India), and Builders’ Association of India (BAI) and the event chairman O. Lakshmanan told presspersons here on Tuesday that the exhibition would have 250 exhibitors displaying products in more than 400 stalls.

The products would be classified and displayed in separate halls. For instance, general construction materials, construction technologies and allied products would be in Hall A, while tiles, floorings, doors, windows, wood and plywood related products in hall B and the next hall would be for green energy. The exhibition at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex would be open to business visitors on February 7 and 8 and for the public on February 9 and 10. A conference to be addressed by national and international speakers would be held on February 8 and 9.

The event would have construction machinery and equipment in the outdoor display area.

Space would be earmarked for artisans to demonstrate their craft.

The organisers were also working on facilitating industrial relationships through the fair.

International manufacturers of construction equipment could collaborate with the manufacturing capabilities here to make their products. Students and the public could participate at the seminar.

K. Viswanathan, vice-president of BAI, said though the XII Five Year Plan had a huge outlay for the construction sector, labour shortage was an area of concern to the industry. Mechanisation and labour training required focus. The association was exploring the possibility of bulk purchase of some of the construction materials to bring down the cost.

The Hindu Habitat is the media partner for the exhibition, which would be inaugurated by Parag Majmudar, Managing Director of Ritman Infra. Sai Sri Balaji Lenka, vice-president of Schneider Electricals India, will also participate in the inaugural.
