‘Bring Central institutes to Coimbatore’

The Union Budget had provisions for establishing these institutions at Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.

The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) has urged the State Government to take steps for bringing premier educational and medical institutions of the Central Government to Tamil Nadu.

Institutes

In a statement issued here, the party’s Youth Wing Secretary V. Eswaran said that the Centre had stated that its aim to establish Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) besides All India Institute of Medical Sciences in all States.

The Union Budget had provisions for establishing these institutions at Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.

He said that the State Government must identify land in Coimbatore district for an AIIMS. He also called for reviving a proposal of the earlier Government to establish a world-class institute in Coimbatore.

Mr. Eswaran said that such premier institutes should be established not only in Chennai but in rest of the State as well.

Hospitals

Chennai already had several multi-speciality hospitals. Further, he pointed out that Maharashtra had identified land for AIIMS at Vidharba, which was far away from the capital of Mumbai.
