Promoting one’s own brand is a difficult task. Promoting others’ is an even more arduous task. But students of the Department of Management Science of Dr. G.R. Damodaran College of Science were seen doing this with élan at the ‘Brand Expo 2012’ in Coimbatore on Friday.

Nearly 150 students from the first, second and third year had displayed products of 30 famous national and international brands in as many stalls at the expo.

Explaining the concept behind the expo, A. Gnanasekaran, Head of the Department, said it was to give an opportunity to the students to know about various brands, come up with a concept to display and explain the products in a creative manner. Students were allowed to choose the brands and products according to the feasibility. Certain brands that could not be displayed creatively were turned down, Mr. Gnanasekaran added.

Students had innovatively displayed products in the stalls, be it kitchenware or automobiles. The explanation about the products showed that they were thorough in their knowledge. Some products were brought to be displayed and returned, while some others were bought.

The expo was a platform for them to be judged for their selection of brands/products, creative display and presentation skills.

As part of the expo, various events were held. Nearly 200 students from 15 colleges took part in the events.

A show by television personality Robo Shankar and a music concert by Hip Hop Tamizhan enthralled the students. The Hindu was the media partner for the event.
