Boy killed as jeep rams tree

A five-year-old boy was killed and eight others were injured when a jeep in which they were travelling rammed a roadside tree near Annur on Saturday.

The police said that the incident occurred when 12 occupants of Gudalur in The Nilgiris were proceeding to a wedding at Mangalam in Tirupur District.

The victim M. Rahit of Hathipalli died on the spot. His parents, Mujibur Rehman and Rahmath Nisha, and siblings aged 10 and 12 years respectively escaped with minor injuries. The police said that the driver S. Abu Thahir was also injured and was not arrested till Sunday evening.
