Demanding job regularisation many of the long serving workers at the Government Botanical Garden here have planned to meet Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and submit a list of demands when he visits here to inaugurate the 121st Flower Show on May 19 (Friday).

Speaking to The Hindu , workers said that over 250 employees were working for a daily wage for more than ten years at the garden.

“The government makes revenue from the garden through the work we do to maintain it.

We have been demanding that the workers who have been employed for more than a decade be made permanent,” said one of the workers at the garden who has worked for more than 15 years.

The workers on a daily wage at the garden are paid ₹ 250 per day and do not have any pension plans, health insurance and consequently, no social safety net when they eventually retire. The workers want to submit a representation to the Chief Minister demanding regularisation of salaries and also be given promotions based on the number of years they have worked with the department and based on their qualifications.
