Book lovers have reasons to cheer up at the book fair organised by the Rotary Club of Coimbatore West at Suguna Kalyana Mandapam, Avinashi Road.

From folk tales to children’s classics to biographies, the well-illustrated books from the Children’s’ Book Trust, New Delhi, is the main attraction at the 17th edition of the fair. Around 260 titles including 120 English, 120 Hindi and 20 Tamil titles are available at the stall.

Higginbotham’s Private Limited’s stall has over 3,000 titles including classic and contemporary literature and academic texts on a variety of topics. Literary titles in Tamil including works in translation and English titles including anthologies and literary history from Sahitya Akademi are among the most sought out by visitors.

Apart from books, educational CDs, learning tools, software tutors, scientific educational aids are available at the fair with over 43 publishers and distributors. Supplementary readers for students, guides and question banks for competitive examinations and syllabus-oriented books for teachers and students are on display.

Books on a variety of other topics ranging from architecture and business to spirituality are also part of the fair. The stall by Indhira Gandhi National Open University offers study materials on various streams.

The expo will be on till September 30 from 11 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. According to the Chairman of the book fair committee, P.P. Subrmanian, the fair aimed to create an interest in reading while familiarising people with titles on a variety of subjects.

Students would be given 10 per cent discount on certain products on producing their identity cards. Various entertainments programmes and quiz contests would be held as part of the fair, he said.
