The book exhibition and 40 floats, specially selected by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for the procession on the first day of World Classical Tamil Conference, being held here from June 23, would be kept for one more week after its conclusion on June 27, for the benefit of the public, Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin said on Tuesday.
Talking to reporters, after inspecting the progress of preparation of the floats, depicting culture, tradition of Tamil and also the Kings, Mr. Stalin said that 85 per cent of the infrastructure development works were completed.
The book exhibition at CODISSIA Complex, venue of the conference, would be kept open for public to view them for one more week. Similarly, the floats, mounted on lorry chassis, would also remain at the VOC Grounds, he said.
The arts and cultural festival, as part of the conference, would be inaugurated by Mr. Karunanidhi on June 20, he said.
Mr. Stalin declared open a new modern bus stand, constructed by the City Corporation on Mettupalayam Road in the city at a cost of Rs. seven crore, in the morning.
He also launched the Rs. 30.13 crore joint drinking water scheme for Vadavalli and Goundenpalayam panchayats.
