The Coimbatore Corporation Council on Thursday passed a resolution to set up an ayurveda bone and joint clinic.
The subject tabled in this regard said that in the expanded city that had a population of 16 lakh, 50 per cent of the people aged over 40 invariably suffered from bone and joint pain. As and when established, it would be first for a municipal corporation in the State. The treatment, to be spread over 45 minutes, would be without side effects.
Expenditure
The Corporation would incur Rs. 39 lakh towards establishment of the clinic and an annual, recurring expenditure of Rs. 16 lakh.
Commissioner G. Latha said that the Corporation would construct a new building, refurbish an existing one or rent one to establish the clinic at the earliest.
In another resolution, the Corporation said that at the main office in Town Hall, it proposed to establish a canteen that would serve specialised food with an ayurvedic flavour. It would serve idli, vadai, paniayaram, Kali, meals, and tea.
It would be a not-for-profit venture aimed at providing quality food to the city’s health conscious residents.
The idea was from the Chennai Corporation, where such a canteen had been functioning since 1981.
