To commemorate the birth centenary celebration of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran, a boating event was organised at the Ooty Lake and Boat House on Friday.

As many as part 15 tourist guides and boatmen participated in the event dressed like MGR in the movie ‘Padagotti’.

The event was flagged off by Nilgiris District Collector Innocent Divya.

The District Collector also announced about two self-help groups that will help control littering in major tourist places in the Nilgiris. The SHG members would affix small stickers to the plastic items that the tourists carry with them into tourist locations. A sum of ₹10 would be collected for each piece of plastic and would be refunded when tourists show that they have not thrown them inside the Government Botanical Garden or the Ooty Lake and Boat House.
