BMW plans more launches

In the case of motor bikes, the plans were to launch next year the bike developed by TVS Automobiles and BMW.

BMW Group India plans more launches and increase in dealer network in the country this year, Philipp von Sahr, president of BMW Group India, told presspersons here on Wednesday.

He said that the dealer network would be taken from 40 to 50 this year.

In the last one month, dealerships had been opened in Rajkot and Vijayawada and one was opened in Coimbatore on Wednesday. The company planned 15 launches in the country in 2015 and the focus was on high-end models.

The Indian economy was growing. There was drop in inflation, the rupee was strong and the GDP growth was expected to be higher this year.

Sales

“We have trust in the long-term growth in India,” he said. Sales in 2014 in the country for BMW Group India were 6,812 units.

It had invested Rs. 3.9 billion at the Chennai plant and the production capacity of the facility was 14,000 units a year.

Capacity utilisation now was 60 per cent to 70 per cent and eight models of BMW cars could be made at the plant.

It had the flexibility to increase capacity and utilisation. In the case of motor bikes, the plans were to launch next year the bike developed by TVS Automobiles and BMW.

Vasanthi Bhupathi, director of KUN Exclusive, said that the facility in Coimbatore had about 50,000 sq.ft built up area. It had car park facilities and 17 service bays with a capacity to service 1,275 cars a month. It employed 58 people.
