The Bikerni riders, who were here on an invitation by JK Tyres, went around Coimbatore city spreading messages on road safety.

The Bikerni riders, a group of young women on motorcycles, went around the city talking about safety on road and women empowerment here on Saturday.

The team, which is here on an invitation by JK Tyres as part of the opening round of its National Racing Championship, took the public by surprise while sharing their guts and glory stories en-route.

They were on the big bikes and rode it all the way from Bengaluru to Coimbatore just to let the people know that anything is possible with women. The Bikerni women were really excited to be associated with JK as they felt it was the perfect platform to highlight their cause.

Kick-started five years ago, the sole aim of the group is to create a platform for women who ride motorcycles or at least aspire to do so. Today, Bikerni has more than 600 members and is present in almost all major cities.

Road safety is a very important facet of driving. JK believes that safety on the road is as important as safety on the track. And they picked the powerful Bikerni group to signal a strong message about it. “Many of us are not aware that by following small rules, taking minor precautions we can cut down the number of accidents or ensure that fatalities are reduced,” said Sanjay Sharma, Head of JK Tyre Motorsports.

“We aim to run this as a serious campaign so that we have safe and smart drivers on the roads. We intend to carry out these activities across the country, wherever we have our races so that India can become a safe driving country in the future,” he added.

And the Bikerni women passed on this message loud and clear to the Coimbatore crowd.

“I have been riding for the past 16 years. I ride an RE Classic 500cc and my personal riding style is solo tailgater and I love group riding as well,” said Minakshi P. Mohanty of the Bikerni Group, who has turned her passion into a profession.

Deepti Jacob, who heads the Bengaluru Chapter of Bikerni, is riding for about a decade now. “When we started riding there were only four women on Bullets but now women have come a long way.”

Sindhu Iyer, an engineer by profession rides an Avenger. “I love to meet new people and explore different places and that is the reason I got connected with Bikerni,” she said. There are many more in the Bikerni group who take on life’s big challenges with a strong mind. They have been quite successful and want the Coimbatore women to be a part as well.
