The bio-methanation plant being constructed at the Kurudampalayam Panchayat in Perianaickenpalayam Union in the district is likely to be commissioned by the end of August as scheduled. More than 75 per cent of the civil works have already been completed, said J. Daniel Chellappa, Senior Scientist at BARC’s Technical Coordination Wing in Chennai.Bio-methanation plant
He inspected the progress of the plant here on Tuesday and held discussions with D. Ravi, president of Kurudampalayam Panchayat in Perianaickenpalayam Union, and T. Murugan, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency.
The plant will process the organic waste from vegetables markets, abattoirs and toilets to generate manure and biogas, which will be used to power a community kitchen.
Mr. Chellappa said that the main digester room, where the gas would be generated, had already been tested for leaks.
The process of installing major equipment would commence in another ten days or so, he added.
