Bank unions will join the September 7 all-India strike, E. Arunachalam, General Secretary, All India Bank Employees Association, Coimbatore, said here on Friday.
Speaking to journalists, he said the Association and Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) would participate in the strike to show their solidarity with National Trade Union Convention to protest against the Union Government policies.
The demands included stopping anti-people banking sector reforms, stopping merger of public sector banks, stopping disinvestments in public sector banks, not allowing licences to industrial houses to open banks, stopping World Bank loan to capitalise public sector banks, reversing the take over of Bank of Rajasthan by ICICI Bank, nationalising ICICI Bank and all other private banks, taking stringent measures on bank loan defaulters, not writing off bad loans with people's money, etc.
Mr. Arunachalam said the bank-specific demands included making public the details on non-performing assets and opening rural branches. On September 6, the members would hold a demonstration in front of the Bank of Baroda premises, opposite the railway station.
