A month-old baby boy losing vision at a private hospital has made the Race Course Police register a case against the hospital’s three doctors.
The police said that the baby’s father Devendiran, 30, of Kulathupalayam, had lodged a complaint stating that when he took the baby a few days ago to the private hospital near the Women’s Polytechnic College in Avarampalayam, the doctors there, after a brief examination of the child, asked him to rush the baby to a specialised eye care hospital on Avanashi Road. Devendiran told the police that he took the baby to the private hospital because his wife was delivered of the child there in March this year. The doctors there had kept the child in the intensive care unit before discharging his wife and the baby.
At the eye hospital, Devendiran was informed that the baby had lost vision because the doctors at the hospital, where his wife was delivered of the child, had used a contaminated syringe on the baby, which had caused the infection. Angered by the negligence of the doctors, Devendiran lodged a complaint with the police, who had registered a case charging the doctors with negligence.
