Officials of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco), electricity consumers, and the public took out a rally here on Friday to create awareness on the dos and don’ts during monsoon season to avoid electricity-related accidents.

Chief Engineer of Tangedco, T. Haldorai, said about 400 people took out a two-km rally, carrying placards. He urged electricity consumers to inform the department immediately if they spot a snapped power line. He also highlighted the safety of employees while attending to complaints during rains. The staff are checking damaged poles, conductors and pillar boxes. They are also clearing tree branches that are close to power lines. The staff will take the message to consumers by visiting every street in residential areas. Efforts are on to have two more toll free numbers to help consumers register electricity complaints without delay, he said. The department plans to organise similar awareness rallies and meeting across the region.
